Gravity Nelson

Nelson has one of the best trail networks in New Zealand and almost all of it is uphill first. Gravity Nelson removes that part: three runs in a half day for NZ$89, five in a full day for NZ$149, shuttling every trail zone in the region. Add a full-suspension Mondraker or Transition set up for the local dirt, or a coach to make the descents better.

The operation

A shop on Bridge Street and access to every zone

Gravity Nelson runs out of 140 Bridge Street in the middle of town. Since 2019 it has been able to shuttle in every trail location around Nelson — Codgers, Fringed Hill, Firball Skid, the Maitai and Gorge trails, Cable Bay Adventure Park — which it credits to the local landowners, Ngati Koata, the forest managers at Tasman Pine and the city council. The day gets tailored to the conditions and to how the group actually rides rather than run off a fixed timetable.

The rental fleet is Mondraker and Transition full-suspension, set up specifically for Nelson trails and, in the shop’s phrase, “Gorge Ready”, with a free helmet and knee pads on request. Alongside the shuttles and rentals there is a real coaching programme: Sendy Sundays on the airbag and jump line at the Field of Dreams, Mentored Mondays, a four-week Revolutionise Your Riding series, school-holiday camps and a development squad for the fast kids.

“We usually tailor the day’s riding to the trail conditions and the group’s riding ability.”

Reviews

What guests say

Reviewers praise the coaching and the measurable progression from the multi-week courses, the reliability and flexibility of the shuttle timings, deep local trail knowledge and a well-kept rental fleet. There are no reviews below five bubbles, which is worth reading carefully: sixty reviews is a small and consistently happy sample rather than proof at scale.
